Can I use my own storage insurance?

You can also take out your own insurance if you wish. We will ask for proof of cover before your goods are placed in self storage with us.  Any insurance must cover goods stored in a self storage facility and name the storage company you are storing at, along with the full postal address of the storage depot and the sum insured.

How do I make a claim?

When does my insurance policy start?

Your policy is valid from the moment you place your goods in storage with us.

Does my storage insurance affect my home insurance?

Our insurance protects your home insurance benefits.  Because it is designed specifically for your items in storage,  there will be no impact on your often valuable ‘no claims discount’ nor will it affect your future premiums in the event of a claim.

How do I ensure my goods are fully protected?

• Ensure the value is declared correctly.  Before taking cover, please consider the true cost of replacing the contents you are storing with us.
• Consider making a list to help you or take photos or a video of your contents to help our insurer in the event of a claim.
• If you have expensive goods with valuations, please ensure you can obtain a copy in the event of an emergency or total loss.
• Finally, remember that valuations can change, therefore it is important to inform us of any changes to the value of the goods stored.

What is under-insurance?

Under-insurance is a common problem and can equally arise when valuing possessions, stock or equipment whilst in any setting including self-storage.  It arises when the value of the goods declared does not represent the true replacement value at risk, resulting in us assuming responsibility for a lower value. It matters because in the event that you are under-insured and you need to make a claim, you may receive a substantially reduced pay-out.
